Sam
Colt Letter Re: Civil War Arms Purchases - A 1 page / 1 sided letter
to John S. Jarvis, a brother-in-law; chastising him for a poor job of
buying surplus arms overseas. Jarvis was sent to buy good arms to be resold
by Colt to the Union for the CW. Instead Jarvis bought useless leftovers.
Sam explains he isn't going to honor any more drafts unless the guns were
OK'd by another overseas agent and have "passed inspection and known
by him to be correct..." Penciled note - copies of letter sent to
2 other Colt agents. Old tape residue at 4 corners. 5" x 7 1/2" stationary.
Perhaps written by a Colt secretary & then was signed by SAM COLT. Nicely
framed w/ a steel engraving of Sam pulled from an Armsmear book. Written
8/2/1861 on an important subject, 6 months before Colt died.
BONUS - 9/25/1859 letter to Jarvis from a friend congratulating him for his marriage to a mutual girlfriend. 1 page, written on 2 sides. (Cat. #13351)...$2,500.00 SALE $1,950.00 (1 Available) |
